Common questions

Why does a firm need its own license?
In North Carolina a business offering engineering or surveying services holds a firm license in addition to the individual licenses its staff hold. Both matter: the firm has to be licensed to offer the service, and a licensed individual has to seal the work.
What does a C number mean?
Firm licenses are prefixed with a C, for example C-4503. An individual engineer's license is plain digits and a land surveyor's starts with L.
Who licenses engineering firms in North Carolina?
The North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCBELS).
