Do I need a licensed electrician in North Carolina?
For most electrical work, yes. North Carolina requires a licensed electrical contractor for electrical installations, and a permit is typically required. A homeowner may perform limited work on their own primary residence, but hiring a licensed electrical contractor is the norm and is often legally required.
What do the electrical license classifications mean?
The board licenses by scope. Unlimited has no cap on the size of a job. Intermediate covers mid-size work, and Limited covers smaller projects.
